Juicy Lucy Burgers

My very first time seeing this amazing burger was at some hole-in-the-wall dive burger joint in Rochester Minnesota. It looked SO GOOD! They actually had a lot of burgers that looked really good. My sister ordered a burger . . .not on a bun. . .but sandwiched between 2 grilled cheese sandwiches!!!! That's four pieces of bread folks!!! It was definitely and indulgent dinner!

I didn't eat one there, but I did come home and make one. Since then I've seen these burgers everywhere. Recently I watched a show in the travel channel called Food Wars. It was comparing two restaurants that make a similar dish. Not only did they compare the two dishes, but they voted on which one was the best. On last nights episode they were comparing Minneapolis's Matt's to Minneapolis's 5/8 Club. The dish that was competing to win was a burger. . .but not just any burger. . . a Juicy Lucy.

Upon seeing this delicious, tasty, cheesy, oozing burger, I decided that was dinner the next
night. So here you have it. The Juicy Lucy.

Juicy Lucy Burgers

1 1/2 to 2 lbs hamburger
6 pieces of cheese, I used American this time but you can use whatever you like
6 buns
and whatever burger fixings you like

1.
Divide your hamburger into 6 equal portions.

2.
Take each of your six portions and half them.

3. Roll each of your now 12 burger portions into a ball.

4.
Set the ball of burger on top of a piece of tin foil, and top with another piece of foil.

5. For this next part you can get creative if you want. The goal is to make that ball of hamburger flat and thin. I usually take a plate, and press down on it, revealing a ultra thin burger patty.
6. Top that burger patty with a piece of cheese. Usually you'll have to break up the cheese to make it fit in the center of the burger.
7. Repeat the flattening process with another portion of hamburger, and top the cheese with another burger.

8. Carefully press edges together, and shape in your hand to make a nice cylinder shaped burger.
9. Fry burger on grill or pan until cooked thoroughly.
10. Eat like any old burger, toss it on a toasted bun and top with whatever you like on your burger!

11. BE CAREFUL of the insanely hot melted gooey cheese! It's best to let the burger sit a few minutes before that first bite!

The 2:00am Burger!

This is not exactly a "recipe" . . .but it's an idea for an insanely delicious hamburger!!! My sisters and I went out for my cousin's 21st birthday to a restaurant called The Rock Bottom Brewery. The food there was SO GOOD!!!

My sister, Amanda, ordered this burger for her dinner, and we were all jealous! I knew that this is one that my husband would love. So Amanda snapped a picture of her burger with her cell phone, and proceeded to send it to all the guys. Needless to say, upon seeing the picture, Dave has been dying to eat this burger!

So finally, about a month and a half later, I finally make him his burger. . .and it was just as good as it looked!

The 2:00am Burger

4 buns, toasted
4 burgers, grilled
4 slices of cheese
8 slices of bacon
4 fried eggs
4 hash brown patties

1. Layer: Bun, hash brown patty, burger, cheese, 2 slices of bacon, fried egg, and top of bun.

2. Open wide. . .and eat up!

White Castle Burgers!

Ok, so Dave was sick today, and he's kind of a cry baby when he's sick. Because he can be such a whiner, I wanted to make him a really special dinner. I know what you're thinking. . .Does White Castle really scream "special dinner?" Not for most people, but you don't know Dave. He's obsessed.

It's been said that his Mom craved these little burgers when she was pregnant with him. Where we live, however, there is no White Castle. If there were, he's probably be a thousand pounds heavier. So I found a recipe, tweaked it a bit, and made them for dinner. They were great! SO CLOSE to the real deal!

I put plenty of pictures with this post, so you can see exactly how I did this. It's out there on many other recipe sites as well. If you like White Castle, you gotta give these bad boys a try!

White Castle Burgers!

1 1/2 pounds hamburger
1 onion, finely chopped
1 package Lipton onion soup mix
1 tablespoon peanut butter
1/2 cup milk
Cheese slices
Pickles
Ketchup
Mustard

1. In a large bowl mix together the hamburger, Lipton Onion Soup Mix, peanut butter, and milk.
2. Sprinkle chopped onions evenly in a 10 x 15 pan. (At this point I toasted the onions a bit, but you don't have to do that.)
3. Scoop the meat mixture over the onions in the pan.
4. Flatten the meat and spread/smooth it out.
5. Put it in a 350 degree oven for about 25 minutes. The meat will shrink.
6. Add your cheese slices. Put it back in the oven for 7-10 minutes (until cheese is melted).
7. Then add the tops of your buns and place back in the oven for about 5 more minutes.
8. Remove burger tops, and top with a pickle.
9. Slice the burgers with a pizza cutter and pick up the slider/top bun with a spatula and set it on the bottom bun.

California Burger

Easy. Healthy. Tasty. Doing Weight Watchers has me on the constant lookout for foods that are filling, and healthy, and taste great. It's easy to get stuck in the rut of eating the same meals day in and day out, but I'm always looking for alternative. This burger makes you feel like you're eating a lot, but without the calories.

1 Pepperidge Farm 100 calorie Deli Sandwich Round
1 to two Tbsp. Avocado Sour Cream Spread
2 tomato slices
1 pickle slice
Several onion slices
Shredded lettuce

1. Cook Turkey Burger according to pkg. directions.

2. Layer bottom of the Deli Sandwich Round with burger, onion, tomato, pickle, lettuce, Avocado Sour Cream Spread and top of Deli Sandwich Round.

3. Indulge in a filling, healthy, and delicious meal!
